CHOICES Statement on Inclusion

CHOICES Inc. believes in the equitable treatment of all children and is committed to fighting social injustices in our community.  We believe that every child and their family deserves accessible, personalized services, and a safe environment.

According to AFCARS* in 2018, 23% of children in the U.S. foster care system are African-American.  This is 10% more than the percentage of African-American children in the U.S. population. African-American children are more likely to be placed into foster care, have longer stays in the system and are less likely to be adopted than their white counterparts**

 CHOICES, Inc. is committed to:

  • Fostering teamwork through an environment where all people of color feel included and welcome to serve as trustees, employees, foster parents and volunteers.
  • Building trust in order to better address trauma and racism experienced by our African-American youth.
  • Innovatively working within our communities to bring change and equality to youth and systems that affect the youth and families we serve.
  • Compassionately continuing diversity and inclusion training as well as educational opportunities for our staff and foster parents.
