Driven by their desire to help kiddos in need and set them up for success, this year’s foster parents of the year have been committed to caring for kiddos who have needed safety and security in their most vulnerable days. They have exemplified commitment, compassion and collaboration – not just with the agency and their kids but also with the county, birth families and their community. They have been intentional to create impact and have worked hard to make sure every youth in their care has felt seen and cared for.
Through each placement and respite they have demonstrated unwavering dedication while truly understand what it means to work for the best interest of a youth. They are always quick to problem solve, willing to go the extra mile and always willing to lend a helping hand. This year’s foster parents of the year award is awarded to Alyssa and Matthew Ledwith.
The Ledwiths have never been afraid to jump into a situation and make it great and the impact they have made on the lives of the kiddos they have loved on is unmatched. Even when they don’t have current placements the Ledwiths are always a phone call away. They have been quick to help with respites and have been willing to accept placements from respites when that has proven to be in the youth’s best interest.
While caring for the youth in their home, they are quick to identify needs and take action. One of our favorite things about the Ledwiths is their motto “if it’s not 100% yes, it’s a no”. Their approach to foster care is rooted in teamwork and commitment and this mentality has shown their willingness to try new things but also their trust in the teamwork they provide together to give kiddos what they need. They are strong advocates for children ensuring that every voice is heard and every need is met and have been instrumental in the reunification of their kiddos when safe and possible by building relationships and establishing meaningful connections.
If you have seen them out and about at any of our events you know they have the most energy, the best go with the flow attitude and always share endless encouragement. They have been an ear to parents who need support, they have shared resources when needed and they have been a bridge to connect all sides. The Ledwiths are a family who truly just “get it” and are willing to do the hard things.
The Ledwith’s home is a place where children are empowered to thrive, families are uplifted, and the power of love is shown in every interaction. Through their example, they remind us that foster care is not just about providing shelter—it’s about building bridges, healing hearts, and standing together as champions for children and families. Alyssa and Matthew, thank you for your willingness to do the hard things. We are so appreciative of everything you are and do! Congratulations on being this year’s Foster Parents of the Year!
