If you have been following CHOICES on Facebook you have seen that this is a very exciting time of year for our kids and families. Just today we have uncovered a new request from our kids…and we need your help.
Nearly all of our young people in Independent Living have requested a small Christmas tree for their apartment. Showing acts of kindness and caring to the youth in this program between Thanksgiving and Christmas is so important. Many are removed from any family contact and struggle with the feeling of loneliness during a season where the focus on family connections. For the first time ever we are making it our mission to provide a small Christmas tree to every kid who has expressed an interest.
What do we need? Twenty 4 ft Christmas trees with decorations.
Here is how you can help: Purchase a pre-lit 4 ft Christmas tree (and lights if not pre-lit). Also, provide your favorite decorations with your donation. In a way we think of it as your sharing some of your family traditions with our young people. Whether you are a garland and red bulb kind of person, or ribbon and snowflake ornaments.
Please also consider sharing a holiday greeting or word of encouragement to the young recipient of your generosity.
When one of our kids gets home in the evening from work or school, he will have a cozy Christmas apartment to come home to. This small gesture can help fill a big void kids in our program often experience.
Donations can be dropped off at our office Monday – Friday from 9 am – 5 pm at our office on Big Hill Road. The sooner, the better so we can get the decorations to our young people. (Please no later December 16th) You are also welcome to give your donation to a CHOICE staff member to bring in, if that is more convenient.
