While operations look a bit different right now, CHOICES is still committed to celebrating May as National Foster Care Month. We would like to acknowledge the commitment our foster parents have to their kids year round, but especially during this time. Like any parent they have had to shift routine and schedules to help with schoolwork, have difficult discussions regarding bio parent visits and delayed reunification as well as helping kids cope with the loss of seeing friends, playing sports, and being involved in activities. THANK you for all you do!
The steadfast commitment of our parents is what helps us continue our mission during this time. While referrals from our county partners are much lower, we still have many families willing to accept kids into their home. We know this is temporary, we know that there are kids out there in difficult home situations who are going to need CHOICES and our compassionate foster parent network as we move forward.
CHOICES continues to license foster parents – the need was large before and experts are predicting even greater numbers of families needed for the remainder of the year. We are currently conducting our foster parent training via Zoom! There are certain aspects of the home study process that are required to be completed in person; we will be sure to take every safety precaution possible. The support of foster care extends beyond becoming a foster parent. There are many ways you can support our youth and families.
- We are currently running a “Spot the Yard sign” contest on our Facebook page, random winners will be chosen and receive a $25 gift card – be sure to check it out! This helps us share the need for parents!
- Put a CHOICES yard sign in your own yard, we will even drop it off. Email Meghan for more info at mbaltzell@choicesfostercare.com.
- Support our mission during this time and beyond. We are sad we had to cancel our annual breakfast for this month, we look forward to sharing the success of our youth with our community! This is our largest fundraising event of the year that helps fund additional opportunities for our programs and youth. Please consider a donation of any size to support our kids and families!
