New Coats for IL Youth: A Wish Comes True

In 2013 we set out to provide something to all of our young people in Independent Living (IL) as the cold weather approached and the Holidays came near; a new winter coat and hat and gloves for our kids who really need them.  Nearly all of our IL kids rely on public transportation to get from their apartment to school, work, appointments and the grocery store.  We didn’t know exactly how we were going to do it, but we were going to make it happen.

It may have been luck, it may have been fate… but in the summer we discovered One Simple Wish via the wonders of social media.  They are also a non-profit operating out New Jersey who has the wishes and needs of foster kids in mind.  They work with many non profits (575 to be exact), just like CHOICES, across the United States to grant the wishes of kids in foster care.  Pretty awesome? Yes, it is because their founder Danielle Gletow was chosen as one of CNN Top 10 Heroes of 2013.  Congrats to her, and to One Simple Wish because that meant they were getting a lot of traffic to their website to grant wishes for foster kids all over the country.

OSW Coats

15 of our IL kids were provided coats because of One Simple Wish and amazing people…who we will probably never know… across the US that were able to fulfill a need for our kids.  We were also able to partner with local individuals and businesses to provide the other coats for our kids, because we know we have great donors too! Thank you!

Because of you we were able to reach our goal and provide winter attire for all of our kids right before the polar vortex hit  Ohio.  The kids were so very grateful for your kindness, support and caring.  Thank you for making this a success and we are going to plan on doing it again next year!

One Simple Wish supporters have granted many wishes for our kids, we will have another exciting story coming soon. When we post more wishes to their website we will let you know on facebook.
