The High School Experience: JaWaan gets a Varsity Jacket from One Simple Wish

We believe in providing the normal High School experience to our kids in care, but often resources and circumstances prevent this from happening.  Moving homes and school districts can cause disruption in education and opportunities, and we could always use donations to provide all of the things that make up the junior and senior year fun.   Kids look forward to prom, senior pictures, class rings, yearbooks, varsity jackets and more…but often our resources are limited.

Our partnership with One Simple Wish will help to fulfill more of these opportunities for our young people, and we are happy to share our first one.  JaWaan has always had a love for football, and many times during this past season he had expressed an interest to his caseworker that he would like a varsity jacket much like his friends.

JaWaan has always been involved in sports growing up, and proudly wore #7 for his team this year. He maintains a part time job and currently studies heating and air conditioning at a joint vocational school. He hopes to attend Wright State University upon graduation or perhaps enlist in the Air Force.  His caseworker, Angela, was happy to supply all the details for his wish….

…within a day or two of submitting his wish it was granted by a wonderful donor of OSW.  We love the personalized messages they often share upon granting this wish, this one said, “Best wishes for a warm and cozy winter from someone who was born and raised in Dayton.” We send a big thank you do the donor, and to OSW for working with us to speed up the granting process in order to have his coat finished by Christmas.

JaWaan was very thankful for his coat, it means a lot that someone was able to make this happen. Additionally, Angela really enjoyed sharing the story with our staff…because we know that our kids often do not receive things like the coat and it was nothing short of amazing to see this wish come true.

If you are interested to help fund the needs of our kids mentioned in the post you can easily donate online, or contact Ashley Schiffer at (937) 264-0084 ext. 122 or aschiffer@choicefostercare.com.  Because we serve a large number of teenagers in foster care, there is almost always a need for school activity support.
