You Create the Special Moments: New Family Tree Partnership

Robert Bruce, our independent living manager, was shopping a local goodwill store picking up some furniture for a new youth. His description of his job and how the furniture would be used caught the ear of Michelle Conklin of New Family Tree. This wasn’t a chance meeting; it was the beginning of something that was meant to be.

New Family Tree shares the same mission as our independent living program: to help kids who are about to age out of foster care transition into adulthood. New Family tree is passionate, dedicated and has already impacted our kids in a positive way.

There was a catered meal, decorated tables, mini pumpkins, turkey cake pops, handmade scarves and hats…impeccable detail to create a warm friendly environment for the independent living kids to celebrate Thanksgiving. New Family Tree and volunteers from Salem Church of God interacted with the kids, they sat with them during the meal and asked about their lives and asked how they could help.

The moments shared that evening led to handmade stockings embroidered with each teen’s name for Christmas, made personally by the sewing group at Salem Church of God. Each one packed with care, full of items they would need or enjoy for Christmas.

We are very excited for our new partnership, and that our two organizations crossed path that day. In 2013 New Family Tree will provide cooking classes for life skills class and birthday cakes for each youth on their special day.

Our partners, donors and supporters consistently go above and beyond, making each interaction special and each donation personal. You create the memories that our kids will look back upon years from now, knowing that someone cared.
