Enthusiastic, Eager, Engaged and Energetic are just a few characteristics of this year’s Rookie Foster Parent of the Year. They came into this journey of foster parenting with hearts ready and arms wide open. With an eager disposition they have jumped to meet every need and create an impact that will undoubtedly last a lifetime. This year’s rookie foster parent of the year award goes to Kevin and Jennifer Kremer!
The Kremer’s joined the CHOICES family in 2021 and they welcomed a sibling set into their home quickly after. Through the highs and lows, the victories and challenges, the joy and the heartbreak – the Kremers have been a constant through it all. When the Kremer’s began their fostering journey, they shared wanting to provide a stable, loving home. We can confidently say that every child who has walked through their doors feels exactly that way. As soon as confirmation of placements is received, you can count on the Kremer’s beginning to take the next steps to get everything set up. From sports to supportive services, to their favorite meals, these kiddos will feel right at home as soon as they walk through the door. The Kremer’s provide opportunities that youth in their care may not otherwise have. You can catch the Kremers and their crew at almost every CHOICES event, all the community activities, every school performance, weekend sporting event for the kids or a professional sporting event to make memories.
They are committed to being a champion for every youth who walks through their doors and have even demonstrated support to birth families when reunification occurred. With bittersweet feelings they decorated their vehicle with “we’re going home today” and helped support their kiddos reunification with their birth family assuring that they always knew they have love and support from afar and their home and hearts would be open if they ever needed it again. The Kremers have committed to making a difference by making sure youth have the opportunity “to just be a kid.”
The Kremer’s have gone above and beyond to ensure that they are always pushing their youth toward success and providing what they need. The Kremer’s support academics by giving additional attention to helping youth improve their reading levels and taking extra time before bed to complete math problems to improve math skills. They have demonstrated their engagement by simply showing up to any and every activity they can be involved and you can also always count on them sharing all the kiddos latest success with absolute pride in their achievements. No milestone is too small to celebrate; from learning to crawl to sitting up, from making a basket to getting good grades, and from making progress in therapy and to settling into a routine. The Kremers have truly embodied the CHOICES values through their commitment, advocacy, and passion. Their dedication to ensuring healing and success for their youth’s futures has been monumental.
